Hi everyone! My name is Emma, and I just started as new PhD student at the department this February.

In my PhD project, I will study how citizens’ stereotypes of political opponents shape political conflict and discontent. In particular, I am interested in how misperceptions of outpartisans’ social backgrounds and political attitudes contribute to affective polarization and discontent with the political system — and whether such stereotypes can be reduced through targeted interventions. I will join the section of Political Behavior and Institutions, and I am fortunate to have Troels Bøggild and Lene Aarøe as my supervisors.

Before joining as a PhD student, I completed both my BA and MA in Political Science here at Aarhus University. Chances are you have seen me around already, as I have instructed classes in Political Behavior and Public Policy several times over the past years.

Outside of work, I love spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy going for a run (preferably when it is a bit warmer), and I spend a lot of time doing gymnastics. However, I always manage to find time to catch up on the latest episodes of reality TV shows.

Please feel free to drop by my office (1341-222) if you have advice on my research, want to chat about stereotypes or polarization, or just feel like a coffee break. I look very much forward to meeting you all and hearing about your research!
