Hi everyone

My name is Nanna, and I have just started here as a PhD student in the Political Sociology section. It is great to be back at the University Park, where I also completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Over the past year, I have worked as a research assistant at Danish School of Education, where I particularly enjoyed teaching bachelor’s students. While I love teaching, I am very excited to now combine it with my own research project.

My project will center on how pupils learn about norms of political power in school. I am interested in political marginalization as something that cannot be explained solely by a lack of ambition among underrepresented groups, but may also be shaped by the norms of political power that pupils encounter in school. I therefore hope to explore how pupils from different gender and ethnic backgrounds are taught about and experience political practices in school, and how they perform political power through a school election.

I am very lucky to have a power team of supervisors to guide me along the way, consisting of Kristina Bakkær Simonsen and Rune Stubager. I am also very much looking forward to being part of the YOPOW project group, which focuses on the roots of political marginalisation among young people.

Outside the office, I spend a lot of time knitting (I am hoping to reach 100 knitted pieces this year). I sometimes go by the name “Competition Nanna”, as I love coming up with small games and competitions for my friends. I am also in a constant race on the cycle path – usually with people who are completely unaware that they are part of this.
