Hello! My name is Hannah and I am starting as a new PhD Student in the IR section from the 1st of September onwards. My research will explore public perceptions of international security cooperation. Specifically, when and why do citizens exhibit trust towards international security institutions like NATO? Is confidence in international security cooperation primarily driven by external factors (like the outbreak of war on European soil) or are citizens’ perceptions of major decision-makers equally important? Moreover, can we recognize differences in citizen confidence across different country contexts? I look forward to working together with my supervisors, Derek Beach and Suthan Krishnarajan, to unpack these fundamental questions!

As my research interests imply, I am also a bit of a “global citizen.” I grew up on the other side of the Atlantic (in a little place called Ohio) and traveled all the way to the West Coast to complete my Bachelor’s degree at UCLA. Thanks in part to my German roots, I was motivated to travel even further from home for my Master’s, which I completed at Maastricht University and the University of Cologne. Prior to arriving in Aarhus, I stayed in Maastricht for an extra year as a Teaching Fellow in the Political Science Department.

Perhaps in an attempt to assimilate with the Dutch, I learned to love both running and cycling, and I’m always looking for buddies to explore the great outdoors. When the weather isn’t so friendly, I also enjoy drinking tea, baking pastries, reading a good book, and painting with watercolors. If you feel like enabling my caffeine addiction, or even just having a chat, you are always welcome to visit me in office 1332-224!
