Hi everyone,

My name is Petrea. I started as a new PhD student here at the department on 1 February and I will be a part of the Public Administration section. I studied political science here in Aarhus and am therefore already familiar with the place.

My PhD project will focus on whether increased public investment in daycare centres affects the learning of children at risk. Redistribution of resources has been seen as a way to levelling the playing field of children across socioeconomic groups. For instance, this approach has been used in daycare centres, where some municipalities have chosen to allocate resources based on the characteristics of either the children or their parents. Although redistribution of resources based on socioeconomics is a relatively common practice in the Danish municipalities, our knowledge about the magnitude of the per-child premium to children at risk is limited. I hope that my PhD can help clarify the subject. Fortunately, I have Søren Serritzlew as my main supervisor, and Anna Piil Damm (from Department of Economics) as my co-supervisor, to guide me along the way.

When I'm not at work, I love to be active, and I especially enjoy running.  I also enjoy reading good books and catching up with friends over a beer or coffee. Feel free to drop by my office (1340-232) if you have any questions or want to chat.
