New PhD Student: Mikkel Arp

Hi everyone!
My name is Mikkel, and starting February 3rd, I have the pleasure of embarking on a four-year project as a PhD student here at the department while concurrently completing my master’s degree in social sciences and mathematics.
The project wishes to understand and examine in what way educational status-inequality affects the relationship between economic inequality and grievances against elites in Denmark. That is, how do cultural aspects such as moral judgements on educational choices (in Denmark, often referred to as “Educational Snobbery”) influence social cohesion and fundamental trust in - or alienation from - the political elite in an exceptionally well-educated society as the Danish?
I shall look into this matter under the supervision of the incredibly talented professors, Carsten Jensen and Rune Stubager. Their expertise and differing perspectives promise well for the project. Further, my beating heart for and lifelong interest in the sociological perspectives and challenges of our world puts me in the sociology section of the department.
Chances are that you have seen me around for the last couple of years here at the department, as I have instructed classes in the Political Sociology course (several times) as well as the course on International Relations. That being said, I have actually also spent the previous years in the Department of Mathematics here at AU, where I have submajored in mathematics (and I survived!).
Outside of studying and working, I enjoy exercising—whether it’s running, going to the gym (while listening to my favourite podcasts on a broad range of societal and scientific topics), or playing football. Video games also tend to sneak into my daily routine. Please, take a stroll to 1340 and knock on my office door (1340-236), if you have any thoughts or valuable advice on my project, want to mock me about the latest Man United loss, or find yourself struggling with the beautiful art of theoretical math.
All the very best,
Mikkel
