New Assistant Professor - Anne Kirstine Rønn

Hi everyone!
My name is Anne Kirstine, and I joined the department as an Assistant Professor on August 15.
Many of you may already know me, as I completed my PhD here from 2019 to 2022 and then stayed on as a teaching postdoc until Winter 2023.
For the past two years, I have been based in London as a Carlsberg Internationalization Postdoc at the Middle East Centre, London School of Economics and Political Science. I am excited to be back at the department, bringing with me the experiences and insights I gained during my fellowship.
Over the next three years at IFSK, I will work on a new project exploring how diaspora groups and other international actors seek to drive social and political change, focusing on Lebanon and Iraq. Some of my research questions include whether relief and reconstruction efforts can function as a form of indirect opposition in these societies, and what challenges and opportunities shape cooperation between diaspora organizations and EU stakeholders. I will also teach courses in IR, social movements, conflict studies, and Middle East politics. I look forward to discussing both my research and teaching with you, and contributing to the department academically and socially.
Outside of work, I enjoy running and look forward to roaming Aarhus’ trails and sidewalks. In the evenings, you might also find me at one of the city's great wine bars or concert venues, especially if there are jazzy tunes on the program.
You are most welcome to drop by my office (1331-317) for a chat about mutual research interests, teaching methods, running, and latest news from Aarhus’ music scene.
