Hi everyone,

My name is Mads, and I started as a PhD student here at the Department on September 1st. You have probably seen me around before, as I have been working as a research assistant at CFA up until now. I am very excited about being part of the Department, and I look forward to (keep) meeting you all.

My PhD project will investigate inequality in the research ecosystem. I intend to do this on three levels: I’ll first look at how inequality is conceptualized within research. Concepts, as well as the way we talk about and comprehend inequality in general, are defining entities through which our reality is perceived and conditioned. Second, I’ll analyze possible explanations for inequality from a systems theoretical perspective. Thus, I am not interested in individual actors and their actions, but the underlying structures, incentives, and mechanisms inherent to the research ecosystem. And third, I’ll put the spotlight on those in the periphery of the research ecosystem to get a better grasp of the possible structural implications and consequences of inequality in research. I intentionally want to focus on the non-elites as I believe it’s vital their voices are properly heard.

My project is affiliated with the Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy (CFA) with Mads P. Sørensen as my main supervisor and Carter Bloch as co-supervisor.

I have a BA in History and an MA in International Studies – both from AU. In my non-existing spare time (I have two kids), I read fiction and wander the playgrounds of Frederiksbjerg.

You are more than welcome to stop by my office (1331, 030) if you want to talk about inequalities and/or systemic thinking – in research or on the societal level. You can also find me in the lounge talking with Njall about the latest developments in Fantasy Football; yes, we are very wise when it comes to the talking.
