As part of the department’s Democracy and Development speaker series, Anne Kirstine Rønn, who is at the LSE Middle East Centre on a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship by the Carlsberg Foundation, will give a talk on February 24th, from 11 to 12 in room 1330-126 (large meeting room).

The talk will be on the popular struggles against authoritarian rule in Iraq, centered around a recent paper currently under review and based on fieldwork data that Anne Kirstine collected in Baghdad during her postdoctoral research at LSE.

The paper focuses on the role of labor organizations in the 2019 mass uprising against Iraq’s political establishment, and it was developed as part of a workshop on the infrastructures of protest camps. However, it also tells a broader story about the struggle between different actors within emerging democratic oppositions. Anne Kirstine would be very interested in discussing how her findings connect to this wider topic.

All are welcome. No registration needed.
