Hej! I am thrilled to be joining the department this fall as an assistant professor. I recently received my PhD from New York University, and arrived in Denmark in July. Happy to say that I am feeling somewhat adjusted!

My research focuses on institutions in weak states: how individuals seeking redress choose between different forums for justice, and the effects of interventions attempting to improve institutional responsiveness to marginalized populations. More generally, I am interested in group identity: how to best measure it, how it conditions peoples’ perceptions and actions, and how to reduce some of its more negative consequences. A final line of research concerns puzzling political behavior, such as the prevalence of bandwagon voting.

My work employs a broad range of quantitative and experimental methods to studies of Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and the U.S. My research also draws on qualitative evidence, such as elite interviews and focus group discussions. I am a member of the comparative politics section.
