My name is Matilde Jeppesen and I am a new PhD student at the department. I also have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in political science from Aarhus University.

The focus of my PhD project is on the importance of the administrative set-up for revenue performance in developing countries.

Increased domestic resource mobilization, especially improved tax revenue, has internationally been recognized as essential for developing countries future sustainable development. However, despite this increased attention there are still many uncertainties regarding how developing countries can actually improve their revenue performance. My contribution to this debate is to examine the importance of the administrative set-up.

My point of departure is the different administrative set-ups in Anglophone- contra Francophone developing countries. In particular, how Anglophone countries have tended to introduce semi-autonomous revenue authorities whereas Francophone countries have tended to maintain revenue administration within the traditional government hierarchy. Anne Mette Kjær and Jens Blom-Hansen will supervise the project.

My office is in 1341-222. I look forward to meeting you all!
