Fabio Wolkenstein is Assistant Professor of Politics at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University and researcher in Political Theory at the University of Amsterdam. His research interests include the theoretical study of political parties and partisanship, the political theory of the European Union, the theory and practice of democratic deliberation and representation, and the changing shape of democratic participation in advanced democracies.

Fabio is currently working on two projects. The first is a monograph entitled “Rethinking Party Reform” that asks how the institutional design of political parties can be made more responsive to the changing participatory preferences and demands of citizens.

The second project is concerned with the democratisation of the EU, looking specifically at the potential role of transnational parties in contesting political power and shaping institutions at the EU level. This project has been awarded a “Veni” Grant for early career researchers by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

Fabio’s previous work has appeared in general and specialised journals such as the American Political Science Review, Journal of Political Philosophy, Journal of Common Market Studies, Party Politics, Political Studies and the European Journal of Political Theory.

Before coming to Aarhus, Fabio was a post-doctoral researcher at Justitia Amplificata, a research centre for political theory and philosophy associated with the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Free University of Berlin. He received both his MSc and PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
