Henrik Lauritsen's PhD project has the title: "The Evolution of the Saudi-Iranian Rivalry"

My name is Henrik Lauritsen, and I am a new PhD student at the department. I have a Masters degree in Global Studies from Roskilde University, and I have worked as an intern at The Danish United Nations Association and Amnesty International.

The title of my PhD project is "The Evolution of the Saudi-Iranian Rivalry", and my research will focus on how the Arab Uprisings of 2011 and the ensuing regional upheavels have shaped threat perceptions in Saudi Arabia and Iran and influenced their foreign policy priorities. Indeed, the erosion of political authority and the rise of sectarian tensions across the region have opened new arenas for competition between Riyadh and Tehran, and the study aims to explain how and why Saudi Arabia and Iran increasingly view regional politics through the prism of their mutual rivalry.

I look forward to working with my supervisors, Morten Valbjørn and Rasmus Brun Pedersen, and to get to know all of you at the department.
