My name is Jonathan Doucette and I am a new PhD student at the section for comparative politics. I just completed my master’s degree here in Aarhus. The preliminary title of my PhD project is “Democratic Sequences and Democratic Stability”, it is supervised by Jørgen Møller and Andrej Kokkonen.

The project is primarily concerned with the first wave of democracies. It aims to explore the consequences of variation in democratic institutions for later stability. More specifically, how the introduction of suffrage, civil liberties and parliamentary autonomy in different sequences and/or combinations alter the likelihood of democratic stability. In general my academic interests are related to the historical development of democracy and state and quantitative methods (and the combination of the two).

I am excited to be a part of the department and I am looking forward to meeting you all!
