My name is Bertel Teilfeldt Hansen, and I will be visiting the department from August 2017 until March 2018. I am a postdoc at the political science department at the University of Copenhagen, where I also received my Ph.D. in 2014 for a dissertation on post-conflict elections.

Currently, I am working on a number of projects. My main postdoc project deals with the fight over the online representation of actors and events in conflict. To study this, I use Wikipedia’s open API to construct a database of text edits made to a large number of Wiki articles on conflict-related topics and then measure disagreement and significant changes in content using a variety of automated text analysis tools.

Together with Kim M. Sønderskov  and Bolette Danckert from this department (and colleagues from other departments), I am also working on a project on the effect on mental health of terrorist attacks and other disruptive events. Finally, I am just now finishing up a draft of a paper on arms trades and international alignment with James D. Fearon that we will be presenting at APSA in late August 2017.

In general, I am very interested in the possibilities of combining data science methods with political science questions – particularly those questions that are difficult to study systematically using conventional methods. In my spare time I like to write android apps and play with my daughter, Ronja.

I look forward to meeting you all!
