"National belonging matters because it offers a sense of comfort, agency and security. However, whereas nations, for host populations, presuppose relatively stabile physical and symbolic boundaries, the dissertation argues that more fuzzy boundaries allow new-comers to feel part of the national community. How are we to balance these competing demands, theoretically and in terms of public policy?"
